Satin is elegant and beautiful, the knot also tends to slip a bit over the course of a day. Not a big problem but something to think about... While Shantungs and other textured silks will hold steady.
Satins, Modern Madder prints and patterned Jacquard weaves are classics for the office, but Grenadines, Shantungs, knits and handwoven Thai silks have texture which makes them stand out. James Bond always liked Grenadines and knit ties also...
"Ancient madder" silk ties had an interesting texture but no longer exist in the market place and haven't for many years - I don't remember exactly when they stopped being made, but for more than 50 years now due to environmental laws. The old madder process polluted the ground water. Tie companies that advertise "ancient madder" are shall we politely say playing with their marketing terms.
Luckily technology has a solution where heat and pressure are now used to treat silk in a "Modern Madder" finish. The finish has a nice soft drape which I like very much.
Our Modern Madder prints are done for us by Adamley in Macclesfield, England. They are specialists in printing on silk and do a great job. They also are careful with keeping the environment clean.
